Hi!
I am desperately looking for the serialized book 'Galleons of the Air' which I believe was inserted into the Boy's Own Annual sometime in the 1940's. The main character was a certain air ace by the name of Black Farragan or Farragon. Could you by any chance give me more information on which year this volume was printed (and daringly say) where could I find a copy?
Regards!

According to my family history, I am also a relative of Goody. She was the daughter of one of my Great Grandmother's sister. I can remember a family gathering at the end of the war and I was given a copy of her latest book "Mariners in Space". Sadly it has gone astray in one of the many family moves. I loved it and often wondered what became of Goody. Might I suggest, as it was queried, that she took the name Collins because that was her mothers maiden name. No idea where the Erroll came from. All her Aunts had funny names because thats what the younger siblings called them when trying to pronounce their real names. My Great Gran was Mim (Emma) then there was Fuzz, Wag (Walter)emigrated to Christchurch NZ, Jack blown up in war (no known grave)May and Edie and I guess Ellen was in there somewhers. They were all surnamed Collins. Saw the excellent article in the Oldie and started to look around ending up here. Love to hear from anybody whose interested - Les Warne

I wonder if you can help: I am trying to trace the family background of a Jane Redknap, born at sea in about 1823. She married a William Herbert in St Luke District (Mddx) in 1838. William was from Shoreditch and in the 1851 is shown as a pensioner of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Can you throw any further light on Jane and her origins? Any help you might offer would be greatly appreciated.

It is worth mentioning that the sister with whom he lived for many years was a lady of some interest. Ellen Redknap (1906-1991) wrote in the 1940s many adventure books and stories for boys under the pseudonym ‘Erroll Collins’. Presumably she used this name as her targets were boys still at an age when girls were ‘sissy’. Most notable of these was the 1944 Mariners of Space, a highly imaginative and well ahead of its time look into a future world where space travel is the norm which was soon serialised in the Boys Own Paper. She ceased activity in this field in the early 1950s but later had some success with poetry.

Thank you for such interesting information. This contained the only photograph that I have ever seen of Captain T A Plowman KIA at Arnhem Sep 44. I don't think he is on my direct family tree but I am always interested in Plowman especially those who served in WW2. I visited Arnhem again in 2010 and photographed this man's grave. Any more information about him and his family (from North London) would be extremely welcome. Thank you. Francis Plowman

Dear Chris,

Further to our discussion on 'Roots Chat' just letting you know that I've ordered a transcript of the marriage between Elizabeth REDKNAP & Henry HART in Sydney NSW 1844. Hopefully it'll have some interesting details. Will take between 2-4 wks to arrive.

Cheers,

Thanks Chris for this blog and the "insider"-informations about "Auntie Goody"!
I've only read german translations of her work (when I was 15 years old), but I was really impressed about her stories.

Regards Michael
